The role is a Post-Production Technical Operator Apprenticeship (level 4).

Contract Type: 16 Months Fixed-Term Contract

Location: This opportunity is available to those who live within a commutable distance of central Bristol. There is an expectation of being in the office full time, we therefore recommend a maximum of one hour to / from base which for this role is BS1 1EL. Please note there will be no reimbursement of travel to and from work.

Salary: £22,225 per year.

The BBC Flexi Job Apprenticeship Agency (FJAA) is offering an exciting opportunity to be a Level 4 Post-Production Technical Operator Apprentice.

Through the BBC’s Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency, you will be employed by the BBC and placed at Drummer Television in Bristol for duration of your apprenticeship. The BBC will work with Drummer Television and London South Bank University to oversee your successful progress on the apprenticeship.

This apprenticeship is your opportunity to gain experience in the exciting worlds of media production. You’ll learn on-the-job, developing your knowledge and skills while working towards your apprenticeship qualification with our learning provider, London South Bank University.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

What will you be doing on the apprenticeship?

Importing and backing up media from various sources.
Creating and maintaining sync maps for efficient editing.
Performing basic rushes assembly to prepare footage for editing.
Keeping rushes logs up to date and maintaining clear asset records.
Organising and archiving media files to ensure easy retrieval.
Setting up and de-rigging filming equipment for use on location.
Providing DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) support on location, including data wrangling and ensuring the integrity of digital files.
Managing drive maintenance and logging to keep track of storage devices and their contents.
Troubleshooting technical issues related to post-production equipment and software.
Making basic edits under supervision.
Quality control checks to ensure all media meets technical standards and is free from errors before final delivery
General administrative and other duties to support the wider team as required.

What will you be studying?

You’ll be studying your industry recognised qualification, learning both on- and off-the-job in a programme delivered by London South Bank University and based on the apprenticeship standard. Where appropriate, we’ll also give you BBC Academy training, delivered by our experienced trainers.

An apprenticeship requires full commitment and discipline from the learner. Alongside experiences and training, there is an expectation of wider self-learning and the requirement to meet learning objectives and deadlines, as outlined by the apprentice standards. Apprentices must show the BBC that they are dedicated to accomplishing the knowledge, skills and behaviour requirements outlined in their apprenticeship learning plan.

Some knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL) would be desirable or have an interest in, and be willing to learn BSL.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must:

Be aged 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in September 2025.
Live within a commutable distance of Bristol.
By the start of the apprenticeship in September 2025, have lived in the UK for a minimum of 3 years.
Be eligible to work in the UK full-time for the duration of this fixed-term contract.
Not currently be taking part in an apprenticeship scheme supported by the BBC or another organisation.

Be available for the in-person assessment which will take place on Friday 25 July 2025 at BBC Studios, Bridgewater House, Counterslip, Bristol, BS1 6BX.
