Seeking a new drama director… – Now Closed

We at Drummer Television and BSLBT are committed to increasing the talent pool and developing new deaf talent.  We want to reach out to the next generation of deaf drama directors to find the right person to be involved in directing an emotional drama: Where the Light Gets In (working title) written by Rebecca A Withey.  The film is about a single mother who is struggling with her mental health and will be produced by Drummer Television.

Maybe you’ve directed short films but not made a half hour drama for broadcast, or you might be an experienced theatre director but never directed film, or a performer with lots of experience on screen but not worked behind the camera.  We will make sure the chosen director has the right support to enable them to step up into this role.

If you’re interested, please send your CV and a short statement (in BSL or written) outlining why you think this opportunity could be right for you to: info@drummertelevision.com with DRAMA as the subject heading.

As a guide here is our list of desirable criteria:

  • Fluent in BSL with a strong knowledge of the Deaf community.
  • An ambition to develop skills as a drama director.
  • Strong experience of working with deaf performers as a director, or fellow performer. This could be on screen or stage.
  • An understanding of mental health issues in the Deaf community, which can be from lived experience, work, or from learned information.

Filming will take place in Bristol in autumn 2024.

Deadline for expression of interest: 9am on Monday 19 February 2024
